To support the health and well-being of UCI students, faculty, and staff, as well as our local community, the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs-With Interim Revisions requires employees to attest to having received a flu vaccination or decline the vaccination before December 1, 2023.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination against the flu has long been accepted as a safe and effective way to prevent millions of illnesses and thousands of related doctor and hospital visits every year. In recent years, flu vaccines have reduced the risk of flu associated hospitalizations among older adults by about 40% on average. A 2018 study showed that from 2012 to 2015, flu vaccination among adults reduced the risk of being admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) with flu by 82 percent.
The Policy on Vaccination Programs-With Interim Revisions issued August 16, 2023, contains program guidelines and FAQs.
By December 1, 2023, log into the Occupational Health Database to attest to having received the flu vaccine or decline the vaccine.
